Scratches (what works for me)

Maybe this isn't scratches, but I was told by a vet at an
endurance ride that it was, and by my farrier, so......?
(My farrier also said that he heard that some ferns can
cause this, we do have alot of ferns and it is in the late
spring/summer months that they get scratches.)

Anyway, my guys don't get this during the wet weather, just
when summer comes. (I personally notice it when they are
working and sweating alot, along with warmer days.) It is
usually in the front (only one white foot between the two
horses-front anyway) and it is usually just in the bend of
the pastern, above the heel. Alot of scabs, weepy, and
painful. Anyway, since I keep hearing "Fungus" I use
athletes foot cream on them, twice per day. It softens the
scabs, they rub right off, (so not painful) and within 3
days, no more scratches. (It has never gotten out of
control, and now even after it is gone, I still treat every
day or every other day, just as a preventative.) Seems to
work for us.

Heidi
