My husband & I used to ride at Petersburg Battlefield in VA. There was one area that had a real cannon that they'd fire off periodically. The first time we happened upon the clearing at firing time (by ACCIDENT!), Mike jumped off to hold Major, but I felt safer on top. Rocket gave the cannoneer a dirty look, and Major did a spook in place, then went up to snuffle the gun.
You just never know what will bother the horses!!
Trash, cars, animals are all old hat. Look out for wierd shaped stumps, though. Rocket slows down and SSSSNORRRTTTs at those even after all these miles!
