Re: RC: Re: Oregon Trail

Hi, I enjoyed reading your notes here, but a team pulling a wagon could
never ride the entire 2638 miles of the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail.
First of all, it only allows hoof or foot. No wheels in the wilderness and
there are 22 designated wilderness areas that you pass through. It follows
along the spine of the high Sierra. It passes over peaks such as Forester
Pass (13,000 foot elevation and the highest spot on the trail) It follows
the route of John Muir through Yosemite National Park. The starting point is
Campo, California on the Mexican Border and ends at Manning Provincial Park
in Canada. It takes 5 1/2 months to through hike or ride the entire length
at one time. We are part of the group of organizations that help maintain
it, and we need more help - every year trees fall, avanlanches happen and it
could get wiped out if it were not for individuals caring about its upkeep.
It is unique because it does allow horses. The Appalachian Trail in the east
does not.
