Re: RC: HACKAMORES

A full cheek snaffle gives the most lateral control of all the snaffles.
The mouthpiece is what will make the bit severe or not. A single joint is
most severe than a double joint than a mullen mouth is least severe. The
snaffle encourages the horse to lift his frame, esspecialy the single
joint, less so with mullen. If you want or like a higher head set a rope
halter is a good side pull to use and it has good control. You would ride
this with light contact as you would with a snaffle. If you want a lower
head set go with a mechanical hackamore. It works like a curb and uses
leverage to encourage flexion and lowering of the head. The english
hackamore is the gentlest of this type because it has short, curved back
shanks and a wide noseband to distribute pressure over a wider area. It can
also be riden with light contact and use direct reining for horses that do
not neck rein. The "s" hackamore is the more severe of the two because it
has a very narrow noseband(can make more gentle by wraping with latex
bandage) and works best when neck reining.
