I put the headstall on first.  These directions are how I do it with full
cheek snaffle bit.  I stand facing my horse, hold the sides of his halter
with my fingers and put my thumbs through the rings on the sides of the
bit and slide my pointer (i think) in the side of his mouth.  Then just
pull it up into his mouth  with one hand on each side of his face, and
hook one side one handed, then snap the other side.  I don't like doing
it one side, then bringing it across  into their mouth and doing the
other side, that seems more uncomfortable for him.
