Sylvia, This is a BIG problem and I know--I have it with two of my many mares--first time also--AND MORE COMMON AMONG MARES. They went at it (babies at side) so badly that I too had to separate them wilth frailing lead ropes. First time one didn"t back down and say"to heck with it to the other mare". I'm sorry to say that I think it will be a permanent problem with the one mare. She has her own LARGE pen and LIKES it. She still makes mean runs and gestures if any horses come near her. She's fine with people, and her babies are sweet and gentle. She is just THE BOSS and when mixed with the other "wnat-ta-bes" who don't back down, it is quite dreadful and NOT to be solved! Maureen
