Fwd: swimming horses
What Louise says is too true. We live and ride along the Kern River.
Two years ago THREE horses drowned in the river. Last year one. Cases
involved tie-downs, alcohol and/or inexperience. (One poor soul was
riding his first horse for the first time....I understand they recovered
the tack somewhere down stream when they found the horse's body.) This
year, for the most part, the water level ahs been low and when it is up
there haven't been any fatalities. One close call that I know of
because the horse made it across the river to where I board (sans
rider.) Despite the title KILLER KERN, people insist on playing in
the water. Be careful while teaching your equine buddy how to swim.

Yall, some horses CAN NOT swim! I have one. He panics, goes belly up and
thinks he has died.
(You should have seen us crossing the Shennandoah River at the Old
Domininon years ago with "floaties" on his bridle!)
