Re: Training and standing to be mounted

Hi all,
Most certainly take control of your horse while mounting! My horse is
often a holy terror as far as trying to go, go go before a ride...esp if
his "mares" are there. I KNOW people watch to see just how I am ever going
to get on this black thing that is running around me like crazy. And I am
short and he is good sized. When it comes time, I tell him to WHOA and
show him my CROP. If he doesn't stand, he gets cracked on the legs. This
year (well after 3400 miles :>) he stands like a statue...only for the time
it takes to get on...spectators are terribly disappointed they didn't get
a great show!
Please, make your horse stand, and don't let the horse get the upper hand.
I wish you could see how excited this horse is and how he will stand like
a statue...for about one minute! (Also, he BETTER stand for the vet!!)

Also another "trick"...this was an accident and I don't know that I
reccommend it, but once I got on by the trailer and forgot to untie him!
Boy did he learn to stand then! What a surprise he got!
Happy trails, hope yall are getting a lot of good riding in.
How I wanted to go to the Biltmore! Oh well, gotta make a living.
