Biltmore

Just a message to all those who were a part of the Biltmore Challenge
50/100 last weekend to say thank you for coming, as riders or as
volunteers. It was my pleasure to have you all and to see that we had
one of the highest completion rates in the six-year history of the
ride--an almost exact 75% in both the 50 and the 100. I would like to
offer especial congratulations to the 4 first-time 100 mile riders who
completed the ride: Kristen Snook, Kay Bond, James Agnew, and Susan
Turner!!!
Despite intermittent thunderstorms nearby prior to the ride, Saturday
weather was letter perfect for May in Asheville, and the Friday night
rain definitely softened the "cement" trails of the week before! We had
photo finishes for first and second in the 100, and for second and third
in the 50, so the finish offered excitement to all as we cheered riders
across the line!
We did have one rider, Chris Rule, who was injured in a fall on the first
loop, and I would like to update you on his condition. I talked with Mary
this morning, and Chris had been moved from ICU to a private room
(Mission Memorial Hospital, Room 618, Asheville, NC). He will undergo
back surgery tomorrow (Wed), and I am certain that your support in
thought and prayer then and in recovery will be heard and appreciated. I
will try to update news as I receive it.
Ride results will be posted soon by Jan Smith, and again, my thanks to
each of you for leaving the ride manager still smiling on Sunday morning!
