Re: RC:  To Silicone or Not to Silicone
I have wedge pads on my gelding's front feet and my farrier husband uses
silicone underneath them to prevent that problem.  We have not had any
problems with lameness but then again we really fill that space up...
generally have a mess and I have to peel the excess off for a few days
after but we haven't had any sand get in there!  I think it works well
provided that you really fill it well...stuff that nozzle in there as
far as possible and don't worry about the mess.  I'd rather have a
little mess to clean up than have to redo a shoe job because we didn't
get enough in there the first time.
