It is a matter of perspective rather than the actual breed of dog.

A Rottweiler is a good deterient - it looks mean and has a bad reputation,
But some of them are pussy cats - really.
While the Jack Russell is small, doesn't look like much, but can be
a very fierce contender when protecting what is his. The JRT is more
likely to warn you early about an intruder.
