RE: Dog Debate
I have a Jack Russell Terrier, and quite frankly, when she bites....she doesn't let go! I would feel completely safe with her. I have a German Shepherd Cross for back up...just in case!!!
I must say that I think if we prearrange for a dog to accompany you to a ride, there should not be a problem. If the dog turns out to be a problem, the person should be asked to leave.
I have three dogs (the other is a Blue Heeler), and I would not want to bring them to a ride with me if I did not have to (that's what my concealed weapons permit is for ;-) ! ), I figure that when I am busy, I can't keep track of puppy, and I would much rather let them be at home where they can keep my other horses in line! JMO!

I think I'd better re-think the Jack Russell contribution and go with a
Rottweiller for serious protection. Kind of like a bee-bee gun vs. a 350
magnum. Sage will be crushed though.>>
