Steph is providing just that--at endurance.net, there is a mentoring
program in place. Riders list themselves and their location, and the new
rider can contact them as they desire.

Right now I'm helping one person get back into riding (first) by talking
about what it takes to pursue this sport (in email), and she's just started
lessons with an instructor to regain her skills. Later I'll help her find
an appropriate horse and start conditioning.

As a new ride manager last year, I found that a lot of my pre-ride phone
time was spent helping local riders who wished to try the sport learn
enough so that they could complete the chosen distance as a happy team.
I'd venture a guess that most ride managers encounter this to some extent,
but we had over a dozen first-timers.

who also enjoyed the Rex joke and suspects Angie M.
