I'm with Heidi on this one.  I've seen
a horse step thru one when he put his
head down to graze.  And another time
when a horse went down, then got tangled when he got up.
Same goes for a tie-down or standing martingale..... but
to each his own.  People will do what they want with their equipment.
  The best thing people can do if they insist on using them outside of a ring, 
is to put some break-away straps some
where so they break if you get into trouble....
