Regional directors are theoretically supposed to represent their home regions,
whereas directors-at-large are supposed to represent the entire membership.
Sometimes these lines get a bit blurred as in many cases, what is good for one
may well be good for all. Sometimes the differentiation between the two
categories draws out people with different talents--regional directors are
more often folks who have worked hard in their home regions and may not be
known elsewhere, whereas directors-at-large generally must be at least
somewhat known on a national level. Don't know if this answers your question,
but hopefully it clarifies things a little.
