poisoning my horse?

A comment at a ride this weekend got me to thinking...I give my horse an average of 6 apples a day during competitive rides (at pulse/resp checks)...someone mentioned that 3/day was the limit or the pits could cause cyanide poisoning.
I'd heard of that, but thought it would take dozens a day..should I change my habits? He sure loves his apples, and they help hydrate him!
