Erosion control

Where I ride, they make BIG trenches for erosion control.  A bulldozer-type
vehicle starts at one side of the fire trails and digs out a diagonal
trench which often ends up being ten inches deep on the other side.  On
some hills these trenches are only a few dozen feet apart, but the steep
sides of the trenches usually smooth out fairly quickly with a few rains.
