Although I think I can understand the sentiment being expressed here, it
is not something that I can agree with.  I, personally, consider it a bit
rude to join a club that has stated goals, purposes, dogma, etc. and then
try to change it to suit yourself.  Additionally, I definitely have some
disagreement with the Sierra Club, the goals it pursues, and its political
agenda, but that doesn't mean I am going to get together with a bunch a
friends, join the club together so we can change it.

I may try to change the attitudes of the people within the Sierra Club
about horses, by educating them from the outside.  I won't join until I
agree with them (or they agree with me) and we can pursue common goals
together.

It may be easier to change a club from within, but it is politer to do so
from without.
