Re: WORKING AND RIDING

Conditioning two times during the week of about 7 miles or so - usually done in
the dark - and one longer ride on the weekend of 20 to 25 miles. Human athlets
spend more time on skills training once they are in shape than on conditioning.
Baseball players hit balls and take fielding practice, basketball players work on
passing, free throws, etc.

The same is a good idea for endurance horse. Once they are in shape and ready is
the time to start dressage lessons once a week or teach the horse to jump. These
skills teach the horse to pay attention, keep it from getting sour and come in
very handy on the trail.
