NATRC

I Just got back from Robie Park. I went up for the NATRC ride put on by
Marion Arnold.
I took my 5 yr TB baby we got off to a slow start as one of the gals I
happened to team up with had a broke stirrup problem so it put us about
45min behind. Anyway it was a slow 27 miles because we did not have
ribbons to follow only a map that looked more like Greek to me.

We got lost several times and had to wait for the drag riders to point
us in the right direction. My horse was getting tired and his urine was
dark so I pulled at lunch. It only took us 7hr to do 27mi!
All in all it was a very nice ride, not much water though. It was good
experience for my youngster and he is fit as a fiddle this Am.

Now for the down side and maybe you more experience NATRC riders can
help me. First all horses must be tied no pannels I do not agree with
this what is the point?
next I have done endurance most of my life and when I come across steep
down hill or rocks I get off and walk. This is a no no in Natrc why? By
the the way I got off and walked down hills and thru the rocks anyway! I
guess I have been riding endurance for too many years my main concern is
to take care of my horse first and always.
I am not knocking NATRC I will probably do a few more but I just don't
understand the reasoning for some of the rules. Julie
