Re: SELENIUM

My local vet suggested testing for Se when Jordy started to show chronic
tight muscles. I did and his levels were almost 1/2 of what they should
be.

Heidi Smith, our very own net vet, was good enough to give me some
advice on the subject. After about two months of supplementation Jordy
is much better.

Se is essential and it can be toxic in large amounts, so I think one
needs to be a little scientific about it and supplement to maintain the
blood level in the proper range.

What seems intersting and somewhat frustrating is we pulled blood a few
weeks ago after two months of supplementing 8 mg a day and Jordy was a
considerable bit lower than the first test. The only thing I can
conclude is there was some faul up in the last test. Couple this with
the fact that there are not many labs that do this test, it seems to be
difficult to get a reliable Se blood test.
