A friend of mine does R&T very competitively and has this same problem. He
said that they sewed a clip to each stirrup 'leather' so when Scott (the
short one) get on, he just grabs the clip and hooks it to the ring in front
of the stirrup bar. He likes this because he can do it 'on the fly', and it
doesn't slow him down!

A two-teared stirrup was made just for this purpose.  I have seen them in
ride 'n tie photos, but have NO idea where to get them.  The ride & tie
people will know.
