True, but I think when one understands that, one can still come up with a
conclusion based on number of incidents and intuitively relate that to overall
numbers and at least get the gist of the trend, even without hard numbers.
The problem with the electric corrals is when one horse gets loose, he in turn
tears through multiple electric corrals, turning multiple horses loose. When
I vet 15 rides per year and see this happen at five of them, even if I don't
do the numbers, I think there is a trend here.

<<Does that mean pipe correls are safer? >>

This doesn't necessarily mean that pipe corrals are "safer"--I have seen
individual horses get hurt on pipe corrals, too. The difference is that they
get entangled in their own fence and aren't as apt to get loose, and hence
don't run through camp endangering others. Also, the pipe corrals are less
apt to get wiped out by a loose horse, whereas the electric fences are often
not seen in the dark by the loose horse so he tears through them readily.
Hence the "innocent" horse in a pipe corral is less apt to get unintentionally
liberated than the "innocent" horse in the electric pen.
