I have two crape myrtle trees on my farm and have never had a problem.
However, the trees are not in pastures (maybe 20 feet from the fence line).
To be sure I would call the Agricultural Extension Agent in your area (if I
were you).  That's what I do whenever my husband wants to plant something new
and I am not sure about it.
