Wide Gait in Hind End

I owned two mares and one gelding all from the same
breeding and all three horses had a wide gait in the
hind end.  I also own a mother and her daughter and
the mother does this but the daughter does not.
What are the benefits of a horse with a wide gait in the
hind end???
