Re: Here's why

In the Southeast region, placement has been given LD 's since the early 90's.
SERA inititated the 60 pulse finish line in the early 90's time frame- Joe Long
may help me on the actual date. Two years ago SERA standardized the BC scoring
for the LD's to be the same format as the longer rides, except time was defined
by a 60 pulse.

At most SE rides you will normally see about 50% more LD riders than endurance
riders - many of them being as Randy put it "professional LDer". At many rides
it is not uncommon to have 60 to 80 LD riders entered. SERA has been giving
awards to both the endurance and LD catagory for years. For the most part the
endurance riders and LD riders have been on an "equal footing" in SERA for quite
some time.

On the other hand I don't know of any SE rides that currently offer a "fun
ride". A few have toyed with them for a year and then didn't offer them on a
continuning basis.

The new standing of the LD ride in no way, shape or form excludes it from being
used as a training ride, fun ride or any of the other original intents. That is
the manner in which the rider choses to ride. The LD or the 50 and 100 for that
matter can be ridden in many different ways for many different reasons. This is
the strength of the sport.
