Hiya,

No flames, Bob. However, the point of nutrition (and nutrition
education) is not _just_ to enable a horse to perform at tip-top
levels---it's also to maximize the chances of a successful ride without
colic, impaction, nasty fluid or acid-base shifts, tying up, founder,
undue fatigue or soreness, etc etc. Which applies not only to the
hotfoots, but EVERY horse entered in the ride. In my mind, health for
the teeming masses is more important than shaving ten seconds off the
top-tenner's performance time (unless you're in Tom's position, which
I'm not), but I'll happily debate the Finer Points all day long and
anyone that can find some value in it, great. If not, great. I will
agree that the very fine details of some of the nutritional topics
debated here are unnecessary for the average distance horse trundling on
down the road, BUT---any topic that just promotes better overall health
before, during or after a ride is still worthwhile, even though the
horse ain't setting records.

(OK, my thirty seconds are up...back to the library.)

Anyway, just my .02.
