New Horse/ Clinic Suggestions?

I just thought I'd post a note to both E-L and Ridecamp about having
found a horse, (I hope) since numerous people on both lists know I've
been shopping around. I've actually taken this mare on a trial, so I
can try her for a couple of weeks and have her vetted by my vet. For
those of you who saw her sellers ad on E-L about a 6 yr old Arabian
mare for sale, save her from slaughter, I can tell you he really
didn't mean to send her to auction. I'm a sucker, I called about the
ad and went to see her. What I found was a very good looking 6-7 yr
old 14.3-15 hand bay mare that really looks more like an Anglo-Arab
than all Arabian. No papers. Background very sketchy except probably
abused and neglected. She shows no fear of people but doesn't focus on
the handler at all. I just bought a brand new stethescope, new and
improved and I can't hear this mares heart beat! Will have to break
out the heart monitor. Gotta give her credit. She's pretty smart and
not silly per se. She immediately wanted to investigate the barn
Pot-Bellied Pigs. Good thing as they're always underfoot.

Anyway, I'd be interested in attending a TTeam clinic in Md or Va or
possibly some other clinic that concentrates on the unfocused,
troubled equine type. Not interested in the John Lyons clinics. I've
almost always started my own young horses and haven't had to deal too
often with a horse who's attention is so unfocused on me. Suggestions
about training methods for this driftiness will be happily read.
