Me too! I have both horses freeze branded on both sides of their necks. I
quickly got over my vanity when I was told that the brand inspectors don't
have to lift up the manes to look underneath to see a brand if the horses
are in a herd that is bound for slaughter. I want something visible....so
that if they do ever end up almost getting canned...it might save them. I
hope that it will also serve as a theft deterrant. Both horses have
microchips too. I had to put together a clinic of 12 horses to get
freeze-marked in order to get a clinician to come up. If anybody is
interested, they have a website. I'm not sure of the address but it
shouldn't be too hard to find. The company name is Kyro Kinetics. It
should come up if you do a search for 'freeze marking'. Don't they estimate
that something like 100,000 horses a YEAR are stolen in this country?

btw, BOTH of my horses stood perfectly still for the process. We just tied
them to the hitching post - no tranq's, no twitches, etc. (well, I did have
an apple) ;^) They didn't even flinch and did not appear to be in any pain
from the process.

I don't know if any of you have given it much though. But wouldn't it be
easy for somebody to just walk off with our horses at an endurance ride?
Especially during the awards or dinner?
