A bone spur is some excess calcification where there shouldn't be. It can
occur due to an single injury or can come from accumulative, over use
stress. Bone spurs occur when there has been damage to the tissue and the
local pH changes. The change in pH allows the calcium apatite crystals that
make up the hard part of bone to settle out of solution and into the soft
tissue. Ligament/tendon attachments are common parts for bone spurs to
occur (exp: Achilles tendon in people).
