Eggbars

Eggbars are commonly used on feet where there needs to be increased heel
support due to crushing or underrunning. The problem with eggbars is that
most farriers put them on with too long of a toe thus increasing the lever
or moment arm on the deep digital flexor tendon. Guess where that stress
goes? Into the sesamoid bone commonly called the navicular bone.

I would recommend reading Dr. Loving's excellent series in Trail Blazer on
balance feet and my article from the July/Aug issue last year on natural
balance. Also visit the shoer's web site at www.horseshoes.com
