I can agree with the comments about pedigree vs confirmation to a
point. Sadly, most breeders are breeding horses for the present day
vogue, not necessarily for good horses. But there remains a lot of
good stock several generations back and throw backs to these
individuals are culled by the breeders and are a boon to us. If I
look at the up front blood of my horse, I would have never touched
him, but his great, great, great grandmother (who he bears an uncanny
resemblance to) won the Vermont 100 in 1942 and went on to produce a
strong line of performance horses. So my horse, who was probably
thrown out of the barn at birth, has now had his picture on the cover
of the the Morgan Horse for his accomplishments as a driving and
distance horse. I have now learned to look back a few generations to
see if there is any of that great blood when horses were horses. Of
course, that blood has to come forth, but when it does.......
