Well, thanks for the support. I got quite a few responses and I
really do feel better. I learned that this happens to many people
at least once and that horses recover and do well. I think now
from the responses that I erred in letting my horse stand for P&Rs
and he got cold. Next time I will walk him, even if my P&R goes up.
I will invest in warmer, H2O proof horse wear (Just got a new
saddle which I love but paid big bucks for so I guess I neglected
some equipment I should have acquired. This I can fix, altho I might
have to move my living quarters intop the barn with my horses soon)
My farrier comes on Friday to remove that borium. I will not give
up yet on CTR. I had a blast out on trail this weekend and frankly,
except for the rain, I think my horse did too. I'm scheduled for my
next ride in June. I'll watch Jamil closely til then but continue
to ride as I always have. (I put in a lot of miles each week. I ride
every day with few exceptions. I have ridden only gently the last two
days but he seems to be moving fine now.) I'll try that ride and go one
ride at a time. If he has a problem at one of the next rides, I will
consider the possibility that he is not meant for this sport.

I will ask more questions at the next ride and not feel intimidated.
I now understand that, altho thimgs may be harried and rushed, questions
are allowed. I'll try to ask those questions at a point where there
is a lull (is there ever a "lull" at these events?) I really was
under the misapprehension that competitors were not supposed to
"speak until spoken to". It's reassuring to know that judges in
this sport will discuss with the competitors. (Now, I am not (NOT)
talking about arguments with respect to judging decisions but rather
about clarifying a comment from a judge)

Thanks again for all the helpful comments and support.

Libbie and Jamil who hope that someday they will be able to ride as
something other than a rookie but who is willing to be the eternal
rookie as long as the horse is not damaged (and I'll do it with a song,
too)
