[Stephanie Teeter] Ok, just think about this... almost 1000 messages come through
ridecamp every week. So my options are:

1. Moderate the list - read every message and decide if I think it's appropriate
before it is sent to the list. First of all I don't have the time to do this.
But more importantly I don't have any interest in doing so - everyone
is entitled to an opinion (right or wrong). If you don't like the postings or
get tired of the bickering then just go away. This list represents a little snip of human
nature - the real stuff - and I like it that way.

2. Drop offenders from the list - this really amounts to no more than a slap on the
hand. There is no way (short of moderating) that I can stop anyone from sending a
message to ridecamp - whether they are subscribed or not. I did this once when a
few people waged a battle on the issue of money awards, but only after I had first sent
private messages asking them to settle down. It seemed like a dumb thing to do on
my part, and I probably wouldn't do it again. Rather pointless.

3. Send occasional reminders to the group - this is the approach I've taken. Sometimes
private messages, sometimes to the group. I really don't know that it helps a lot, but at
least the 'stick to endurance' theme seems to be pretty well accepted. Every once in
a while tempers flare and innappropriate posts get sent to the list. Nothing anyone
can do about it - and the very best response is none - just let it ride. It will settle down
again - and much more quickly if the offenders are ignored.

Any other suggestions?

Steph
