should support boots be used?

always thought that if your horse needed support boots, then you need
to go back and finish your 'homework'

I had some that I had purchased to use for limited exercise while
recovering from an injury.

An angel must have tapped me on the shoulder that morning while I was
saddling. It was our first ride in about a year and I put them on
just for a little added support as the trail was very muddy.

He slipped and almost went down hopping over a low log on the trail.
It had a broken branch sticking out of the top that caught his leg.
It tore a hole in the boot and ripped it almost off, one of the
Velcro straps was ripped off and the boot was loose around his
fetlock/pastern.
This was a Professional Choice Sports Medicine Boot. (try to rip one
off)
We were pretty far out on trail, riding alone. I have no doubt that
boot saved his 'athletic future' is not his life.

He does have moderately long pasterns and is very smooth.
haven't had problems with soundness, but I do a Lot of LSD training
and this horse has not been raced over about 8-9 mph.
