Actually, it has been my experience, that the best way to prepare a horse
for a multi-day ride is....REST.

And I have found that the best way to tell if you and your horse (the YOU
part is important) are ready for a multi-day ride is to analyze how you
both feel the day after a 50. If you get up the next morning after a
ride, and you and your horse feel like going again (and the 50 of the day
before did not lead to any metabolic or lameness problems), then you are
probably ready to go again.

The only way to know for sure is to either a) try it or b) try it at home
(but who rides 50 miles for practice at home?)
