Hi Andrea,
Nikki has already given some information about the Quilty beginnings. At
present it is run as the national competition, with anyone who qualifies (ie
done the required rides before the cut off date) and can make it able to
compete. There is talk that in time there will be the Quilty, for all, and
an "elite" national competition, with sponsored riders from each state. But
at the moment, the Quilty goes from state to state - this year New South
Wales, last year Victoria etc. Since I have been involved with endurance,
the ride has always been run in early June - winter time for us.

As far as other major rides in Australia, well I guess the state
championships would be the next most major. They are run towards the end of
the season generally - here in Western Australia they are usually in September.

We would always love to have visitors at our rides, and while I can't speak
for the horse owners, I know there are people around who have in the past
been willing to lease horses for visitors to ride. The states may have
different regulations about who has to ride as a novice - ie with a set
minimum time, so it would be worth finding out that kind of information when
making any arrangements.

Happy riding,
Anne
