Crewless Riders

In one of the responses to the story I posted about the time my blanket
was "borrowed", Truman shared his solution of putting all of his
belongings going out to holds in a plastic container. This sounds like a
good idea, not necessarily just to dissuade "borrowing", but to be
organized. I think I need to get a system like this together. I do have
questions though...

1. Up to now I have done mainly CTR, so there is typically one hold where
management will truck or trailer out rider belongings. Usually this is
limited to one or two buckets & whatever will fit inside. What is the
protocol for endurance rides? I imagine that since crews are permitted,
the number of riders requiring management to haul out stuff is less, but
still there but be some practical limit to how much you can send out.
(How big is your plastic container, Truman? Do your buckets go inside or
are they separate?) Any ride managers/volunteers care to comment?

2. The most recent endurance ride I did had all the vet checks in one
location. This made it really nice for a crewless rider, since the stuff
that management did haul out only had to go to one place. How does it
work for rides where the vet stops are not in the same place? Do you
send out multiple "care packages"? Or does management somehow move the
stuff to the progressive stops? (I would think that that would be a
logistical nightmare!)

3. What methods have crewless riders found to work well? Is a plastic
container what most people use, or would a waterproof bag work equally as
well, or is there another way I haven't considered? What do you usually
send? Would love to hear suggestions!

Just want everyone to know how much I appreciate your advice to the
various questions I have posted. Every time I read this digest I have to
have pen & paper handy to write down all the good ideas and/or references
to follow up on!
