Hi Tracy,
On your question concerning feeding dairy quality hay, I'd advise
against it. If that's what you're stuck with, as I am, try to get a
grass/alfalfa mix and keep your horse on an unirrigated pasture also.
Try contacting the hay brokers in your area. I was able to get some of
that wonderful Washoe Valley timothy two years in a row that way. If
you live in the western US, you'd better put dibs on your year's supply
of hay as soon as possible. Most of our stockpiled hay here in central
Nevada is being trucked out to the flood areas at a furious pace.
They're taking everything that isn't nailed-down!!
