feeding pellets

Hi everyone! I'm a new subscriber, although I've been lurking through
the archives on a friend's computer for some time.

I was wondering if anyone else riding endurance has fed hay pellets to
their horses? We are feeding an alfalfa/bermuda mix pellet along with
bermuda grass hay. The horses look great although we did have to add
the loose hay after they started to eat their feeders while on just
pellets. The reason we went to pellets, is that good quality grass hay
is very hard to find here in Phx, Az. I did find some 2-wire bales of
timothy,but at $9.50/bale, I don't think so!

I was wondering if the pellets might cause a problem when we start
competing again...they suck up alot of water in their tummies....should
I avoid feeding pellets the night before a ride? Or longer?

Thanks......Tracy Stampke
