Back in 69-70 we moved to the country bought a farm and within 2 months carol
had a horse.. we took turns riding him..in a month i had one. all from honest
dealer..

by 71 i/we were 'real' party cowboys riding with clubs on weekends and on
weekends party rides... i bought/sold horses all the time. ended up with an
anglo-arab mare.

daughter was in 4-h. we did shows etc.. i sent my new 5 year old green mare
to a western trainer to make her a western show horse hahahahah.

after 2 weeks i went over ..he told me she was not going to cut it.. she
belongs in english OR i should try competitive trail riding ?????
his dad was a ctr judge..in pa we had very few rides.. but there were some in
md and va.. his name was herm galey.. he took me out on trails and tought me
what he knew.
our 1st ride was in oct 71? or 72 a judged pleasure ride in doncaster
md..20 miles
rode in a monte-foreman saddle 42 lbs.. chaps jeans hat etc..
was a blast.. meet pete/bev fields and tom/marie walker and the only group
of trail riders in md pa va area..
there was no endurance rides .. one in ny and the od was getting started..
that year we went to a 25 miler and found out about ectra.. and met val-larry
k and maggie price mathew-winkie m-s..jan worthington all the foundation
riders on the east coast.
it was great. .. we never did another show. my daughter got a poa and went on
rides from then on-she was 7 or 8. carol started much later.
The mare lasted until 76.. i over rode her at home .. all day sat and sun and
3 to 4 days a week. ..hocks gave out.. i learned alot from that mare..sort of
why i still like mares. she did a few 50 mile ctr..one day rides.. had to
finish in 7-8 hours..was really like endurance. fast for a ctr..no rules then
I bought a very good full arab gelding in 76 he was 4..our first 50 end was
liberty bell 50.. in 78 i think..we did not finish.. did the next year.
carol rode him on the od100 in 79/80 at leesburg va

we have been going ever since.. it has been the best sport i have ever
done..cant think of anything i would rather do..its an adventure that never
stops..

we still have the old horse.at 26. carol is putting him back to work in natrc
ctr.
