Hi Alice,

Boy... I know how you feel. After I moved to my new home in southern
Mississippi, I found a horse down the road from me that was nothing but a
rack of bones. It lived for a year and a half after I moved here, and yes, I
threw hay over the fence too. The old man who owned him said that he fed the
horse and many locals around the area told me that the horse was old as the
hills. I never checked his teeth, I don't know if he had any, but I was
greatly relieved when the animal died. I would like to know the list's
answer to this predicament also, as I was at a total loss as to what to do (
the Humane Society's hands are tied in so many cases!) but hated to drive by
this poor critter every day!

Might I add that I was a "horse trader" for a year. The fellow I was with
was a "killer buyer", I saved many a horse's life that became wonderful
family companions. And I NEVER saw a horse look worse that this one
mentioned above! (And we bought some poor horses!!)

Best,
