Pulled Ligament/Suggestions???

Well, I had my vet out last night to do a lameness exam. Seems Brat
Boy has pulled a ligament down low in his right hind quarter, at the
rear of his haunches. Can't give a more technical name to the
ligament/area whilst at work, sorry. We did a ride a couple weeks ago
with a lot of slick muddy hills and creek crossings. He wasn't right
after that and I had difficulty pinpointing the cause. A friend
actually found the hard knot in his muscle first.

The vet recommended stall rest (I still was turning him out of course)
for 10 days, bute, DMSO and only hand grazing, with a few days of
walking under saddle before turning out again. Any suggestions on
massage, stretching, to aid with recovery?? I've put him on MSM, along
with his Opti-Horse supplement and bute in just enough sweet feed to
stick the powders to the grain. Otherwise his grain has been cut to
nothing and hay increased for his imprisonment. This is going to be
one mad 4 yr old. I worry about scar tissue and possible recurring
pulls in the area. Any suggestions appreciated.
