It's the Clover in the Pasture. Some horses, my App horse included, are
allergic to the clover. I can't remember if it is the red or white Clover
but he gets the slobbers if he eats any. Years ago I did not know not to
feed hay with a large amount of clover and I thought he was rabid as his
feed pans even filled up with slobber. You may want to check the amount
of Clover in your Hay too. He , however, does not have the mouth pain
you describe.
