Nah, use your heart--it's almost always that "heart connection" that
makes our companionship with these marvelous creatures possible. In
truth, every time I've picked one with my "eyes", i.e. exercising rational
judgement, it hasn't worked out.

My best horses have always been rejects for one reason or another. My
friends would call me up--Hey, Diane, go look at this horse before it
goes to the meat market, or is put down, whatever. And when I saw them,
there would be that "look", a "knowing" if you will, and the horse told
me he'd like to come live with me. We saw Miss B on a hill, galloping
down to the fence with a huge herd of mares & babies & yearlings, and
Kevin said "That's the one". We just "knew".

If I just wanted good conformation, I'd hire an outside consultant to get
me something....but I know it just wouldn't work out.
