The best (for me) pair of riding tights come from Libertyville. They're
black with the knee pads and YES! padded crotch! Oooh, that really does
help (after all, shins aren't the ONLY things that rub). And when they
say "large", they mean "large". They don't ride up or twist on the leg,
and are stretchy enough so you don't feel like you are wearing a girdle
(uh oh, that dates me....).

I have used half chaps with standard 1-1.5" English leathers for years.
I'm just now trying it without the half chaps, using pantyhose for
something that the pants fabric can slip across. Kevin recommends going
with sheepskin covers for the leathers.

Kevin uses a full sheepskin seat on his Sharon Saare so he can go almost
au naturel with some stretchy little tights he got from Lands End. Those
are really nice--no seam down the inside of the leg and some cotton/lycra
mix that really hugs you & doesn't ride up. Also the sizes are generous,
they wash well and seem to hold up under the punishment we give them.
Price is quite good also (less than $30) and oodles of colors.
BTW...they're in the "ladies section", but don't say I told you...Kevin
might be embarassed.

Also have a pair ot Treadz from Aanstadt-Das with the cute little pattern
coming up the inseam. Also sized well, but expensive. Put a hole in
mine first time out but at least it hasn't gotten any bigger. Very light
weight, best for summer wear, shed water, dry fast. Tried without half
chaps, regretted it. Just not enough material if you're a "leg-gripper"
like me.

My biker friends are recommending biking tights tho' I haven't really
looked into it yet.

Looking for a pair of kneesocks that are like lycra with some heft to
them that will protect my leg.
