[endurance] Orthoflex-need suggestions

I'm trying out an Orthoflex Swain-CT. It's a combined training saddle,
typical English type forward flaps. From the saddle replies I noticed
several references to "making sure Orthos are girthed properly". Exactly
what is "proper"? I will often make the mistake of a) girthing so tight
that poor Miss B's eyes bug out or b) so loose that you can spin the saddle
around her freely. Do the Ortho's require something in between? Also with
the bootie system should I use a square felt pad or some such thing?

Yeah, yeah....I know that I've had problems with Ortho's in the past (mostly
way too much saddle with the endurance models). This saddle is very much
like my beloved Stubben Survivor with monster knee rolls (you really need to
see me ride to appreciate the significance of that feature). The seat is
gloriously flat, square cantle and NARROW twist (Ooooh, I'm in heaven).
Tomorrow will be the acid test. We'll try it on Miss B who is very prissy
about new things and Kasey who is very piggy about new things he doesn't like.

Anything else I should think about?

Ride fast...lots of cold rain coming in the East.
