I rode in a McClallen for years and LOVED it. It was balanced just right for
me and it is lightweight. As I progressed into serious riding (i.e. fast 50's
and 100's) I found out real quick that they don't fit very many horses. They
come in basically one size tree with 11, 11.5 and 12 inch seats. (Sounds
small doesn't it). But think of the men and horses who used them. They were
of a much different build than we find today (both men and horses). My
contention is that if it works, great, if it doesn't-change it.

But finding them is harder and harder. If the tree is in good shape they can
be recovered. New rigging is probably in order..I recommend BioThane as
leather rots and BioThane is lighter. In fact, if you like McClellan
Saddles, try a Stonewall. They are similar, relatively inexpensive and seem
to work for a good many people and horses.
