I use beet pulp all of the time. In the summer, we have to be careful
how long it sits, as long as it is not over about 8 hours. It does take
about 3 or 4 hours to soak completely depending on how much beet pulp you
are soaking. I always fix it the night before, and it is ready the next
morning. Keeping it covered will help keep it from going bad as quick.
I just put the hay over the top of it. We have had the occasion to feed
it before it was completely made, and it did not hurt anyone. That
happens sometimes when more than one person is feeding, and you get your
wires crossed:-) It is very good to put weight on a horse, especially
an older horse that can't chew hay very well. It is only a problem the
first few times that you use it, then you get right into a schedule of
fixing it just like anything else.
