Riding takes a different set of muscles than almost anything else. I was
your basic jock. Three sports in high school. Four years of college
track. After college I picked up tennis (an A level player in two years)
and skiinig - went on to ski patrol and back country rescue when we liven
in CO. Kathy, while not having the oppurtunity to participate in organized
sports in school (no girls teams back then) was an A level tennis player
and a super skier. We were both in great shape when we decided to do
endurance.

Our first 25 was a real leason on what muscles are required for endurance
riding - because they were so sore we could hardly move. We did a 25 in
South FL and drove home on Saturday night. The next day we decided to go
out for brunch. After we ate we were walking around and there was a shop
open that had a massage chair. We both sit in it for a while. We were so
sore it felt soooo good that if we had driven the truck we probably would
have robbed a band, bought the chair and carted it home. I was 10 time
more sore (and tired) after my first 25 than after my first 100.

So now I keep in shape by running, rowing machine and lots of ridding.
